Edge Tutor spins off from Edukasyon.ph, names Henry Motte-Muñoz CEO

Edge Tutor initially offered online tutoring in English and Math for K-12 learners in the Philippines. Due to international demand, it has expanded to 20 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, providing additional teacher support to different tutoring businesses 24/7.

Edge Tutor, a product offering of Edukasyon.ph, has announced its spin-off from the Philippine educational technology (edtech) startup to further provide tutoring services around the world.

First launched in early 2022, Edge Tutor will be headed by Edukasyon.ph’s founder Henry Motte-Muñoz and will continue to receive support from the edtech startup’s backers, which include Gobi Core, Foxmont Capital Partners, First Asia Venture Capital, and KSR Ventures.

Edge Tutor initially offered online tutoring in English and Math for K-12 learners in the Philippines. Due to international demand, it has expanded to 20 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, providing additional teacher support to different tutoring businesses 24/7.

The company said it has been growing at 50% quarter-on-quarter since then.

As the CEO of Edge Tutor, Motte-Muñoz plans to form an entire roster of Filipino teachers who will provide education to Filipino and international learners and clients.

“Helping learners achieve their full potential through education has always been our vision,” Motte-Muñoz said. “Edge Tutor supplements the learning that Edukasyon.ph has provided for almost a decade now, and we are excited to build this community of educators together.”

Edge Tutor has currently trained over 1,000 licensed teachers on evidence-based methodology and strategies for online teaching. These teachers are handpicked and undergo rigorous screening where only 3% of applicants are accepted, per the announcement.

Edge Tutor was launched in May 2022 as a paid, on-demand K-12 live tutoring service in English, Math, and Tagalog for students in Kindergarten to Grade 10. Parents then availed of four tutoring sessions on the subject of their choice for as low as Php999.

Edukasyon.ph, founded in 2015, claims to draw more than 10 million annual visitors to its platforms by offering access to senior high schools, colleges and universities, scholarships, online courses, and other resources that enable successful education to employment pathways.

The startup raised an undisclosed amount in its Series A funding round in 2020. Since the initial close of its Series A financing round in 2019, Edukasyon has rebranded its platform, increased the number of its partner schools to 700, and hit the 500,000 registered student users mark.
