FORGING LEADERS FOR UNCERTAIN TIMES

August 24, 2022 at Polilya, Poblacion, Makati City

SYNOPSIS

The world faces difficult times ahead. Already robbed of a post-pandemic rebound by new variants and relentless reinfections, industries are now facing a universally grim landscape—what Sequoia Capital is calling a “crucible moment” heralding a long and drawn-out recession. Y-Combinator famously issued a public memo to its cohorts echoing these same sentiments. They end their email with “Just stay alive,” a dour signoff that’s sent startup communities around the world reeling.

But, in the same message, the global accelerator also shared that “economic downturns often become huge opportunities for the founders who quickly change their mindset, plan ahead, and make sure their company survives.” For those with the mettle to meet this uncertainty, the coming years may just be the launch point of massive new success stories. In this session, we pulled from multiple perspectives to define the landscape we all face as a community, and explore the skills, mindsets, and strategies that venture leaders—both investors and entrepreneurs alike—will need to not only survive, but thrive in these unprecedented times.
