The Philippines’ premier international tech startup conference, Geeks On A Beach (GOAB), will be held for the seventh time on November 13-15, 2024, returning to Cebu Island’s JPark Island Resort & Waterpark.
Organized by GeeksPH in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), GOAB aims to accelerate the growth of the Philippine tech startup scene by facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing.
“Cebu is known for its economic growth and world-class beaches and is hence the perfect place to hold GOAB, an event that has taken the position as a critical pillar of the tech startup ecosystem in the Philippines and beyond,” said Dave Overton, GOAB co-founding organizer, and Symph founder and CEO.
This year’s conference will delve into the newest developments and challenges facing the tech industry, including the impact of the government’s Innovative Startup Act (ISA). It will also highlight DICT’s initiatives to unlock market potential for local startups and position the Philippines as a Southeast Asian innovation hub.
“GOAB is essentially a non-profit organization committed to growing the tech and startup landscape by bringing together a diverse set of stakeholders, from founders and government agencies to creatives and venture capitalists,” said Overton.
The program kicks off on November 13 with in-depth masterclasses led by international experts. The main conference on November 14-15 features keynote addresses, breakout sessions focused on various sectors (Fintech, EduTech, HealthTech, etc.), and investor/founder roundtables. Networking opportunities include exhibits, business matching sessions, open area discussions, and social mixers.
Several influential figures in tech and startups have been confirmed as speakers, including Jojo Flores, Co-founder, Plug & Play; Mel Nava, Co-founder & CEO, 1Export; Crystal Lee Gonzalez, CEO & Co-founder, Noneaway; and many others.
“GOAB delivers tangible benefits to attendees in terms of catalyzing inspiration and a venue for networking and collaboration that can lead to success in the long term. We foster a supportive community for startups and entrepreneurs,” said Tina Amper, GOAB founding organizer.
“Last year’s GOAB in Panglao brought new openings to some of the big names of the startup community in the Philippines. GOAB was also instrumental to the long-term success stories of tech upstarts who found their footing in the startup world by participating in past GOAB conferences,” added Amper.
Over 500 entrepreneurs, investors, and global leaders are expected to attend GOAB 2024. Participation is encouraged from all sectors of the startup ecosystem.
