Hive Modular has established a collaboration with Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation to design and pilot the company’s first fully integrated smart modular home. The agreement, signed on May 8, 2026, and running through December 2027, pairs Hive Modular’s factory-built construction system with Samsung’s connected-home technologies, including IoT-enabled appliances, energy management systems, and home automation platforms.
The partnership aims to address traditional on-site construction limitations in speed and quality control, alongside the technical difficulties of retrofitting smart technology into standard housing. By engineering connected systems directly into the initial manufacturing process, the resulting modular homes are designed to be energy-efficient and automated upon factory exit.
“Filipino homeowners shouldn’t have to choose between a home that’s built well and a home that’s built smart. This collaboration lets us deliver both, at factory precision, on timelines traditional construction can’t match,” said John Avrett, Co-founder and CEO of Hive Modular. “We’re proud that a global leader chose a Philippine modular construction company to bring this vision to life, here, first.”
Samsung Electronics Philippines President Roman Han highlighted that when it comes to connected-home technology, Samsung offers the best in the industry. “Our goal at Samsung is to build technology that truly makes the lives of our customers better, and we believe that this partnership with Hive Modular will allow us to showcase better how our SmartThings technology can do just that. We are truly excited for this partnership to come to life.”
The technology integration relies on Samsung’s SmartThings platform, an application that connects and automates compatible appliances and smart home devices. According to the companies, the modular approach allows developer clients, resort owners, and institutional buyers to deploy connected housing units across multiple sites—ranging from residential communities to resort villas—via a single, factory-integrated delivery system.
“The future of housing won’t be built one site at a time – it’ll be engineered, the way everything worth scaling is. Aligning with Samsung lets us design and integrate intelligence into a home before it ever leaves the drawing board, so a connected, better-built house becomes something we deliver by the hundred, not the one-off. We’re proving that a better life through future-ready housing doesn’t have to be a luxury. It can be a system” said Jose Torres, Co-founder and COO of Hive Modular.
Hive Modular and Samsung Electronics Philippines are continuing discussions regarding specific project milestones, including the timeline and technical scope for a localized pilot demonstration unit.
