Smart scooter firm Gogoro Philippines eyes Visayas, Mindanao expansion

The company’s Smartscooters will serve as an eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuel-powered vehicles currently used by the logistics and last-mile delivery industry.

Smart scooter and battery-swapping technology firm Gogoro Philippines has announced plans to expand in the Visayas and Mindanao areas following its launch in the country last December.

Gogoro Philippines, launched by Taiwanese electric vehicle firm Gogoro, Globe Telecom‘s 917Ventures, and Ayala Corporation, seeks to bring its flagship services, which include two-wheel battery swapping and two-wheel electric vehicle Smartscooters, to other parts of the country this year.

The company’s Smartscooters will serve as an eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuel-powered vehicles currently used by the logistics and last-mile delivery industry.

“We are very bullish about the potential of our scooters in this market to the extent that we’re looking at expanding geographically in the different parts of the country, and looking forward to a Visayas and Mindanao expansion for the balance of the year,” said Bernard Llamzon, President and CEO of Gogoro Philippines.

Gogoro Philippines has introduced two postpaid energy plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of its customers. Plan 799 offers a 300 ampere-hour allocation, translating to a range of up to 420 kilometers on a single charge.

Meanwhile, Plan 999 provides an even larger 500 ampere-hour allocation, extending the range to 700 kilometers.

Gogoro Philippines has already installed GoStations across key locations in Metro Manila to provide battery-swapping services for Gogoro scooter users.

It currently has six stations, including two in UP Town Center and White Plains Quezon City that recently went online. The company said others will be ready for service soon, including GoStations at Ayala Malls Feliz in Marikina, Paseo de Magallanes in Makati, and multiple Sea Oil petrol stations along major routes.

Gogoro, one of Taiwan’s most valuable startups, partnered with 917Ventures to reduce the use of fossil fuel by the logistics industry in the Philippines.

The Taiwanese firm counts the National Development Fund, a government funding vehicle, and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek among investors.

It launched its first scooter in 2015 and describes itself as a technology company offering connected technologies or two-wheel electric mobility solutions.
