Singapore-based water technology startup Hydroleap has announced a strategic partnership with Biocare Health Resources Inc., one of the leading in vitro diagnostics distributors in the Philippines.
Founded in 2016 by Dr. Mohammad Sherafatmand, Hydroleap aims to revolutionize how industrial wastewater and cooling tower water are treated across multiple sectors, using automated, robust, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solutions. In the past, the startup raised funds from institutional investors such as Real Tech Holdings, Mitsubishi Electric, SEEDS Capital, Wavemaker Partners, 500 Global, and the State Government of Victoria in Australia.
With an estimated 11 million families in the Philippines lacking access to clean water according to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the partnership between the two companies is timely. The problem lies partially with factories, like pharmaceutical plants and offices, using a lot of freshwater and producing heavily polluted wastewater, putting more pressure on scarce water resources. However, traditional wastewater treatment methods are often inefficient and use chemicals that harm the environment.
To expand access to clean water, the partnership will see Hydroleap team up with Biocare to enhance CYCLEAN, an innovative chemical-free wastewater treatment solution by Biocare’s ENVISOL division. This partnership represents a major step for Hydroleap’s growth in the Philippines, as they deploy advanced electrochemical solutions for sustainable water management nationwide.
The partnership is also meant to bring Hydroleap’s solutions to the grassroots level, with Biocare expanding Hydroleap’s market reach in the Philippines to include healthcare facilities (government hospitals, barangay clinics, and mobile hospitals), as well as food and beverage establishments (ranging from small cafes to multinational corporations), retail centers, and hospitality firms.
Dr. Sherafatmand expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Biocare to bring our advanced patented electrooxidation (HL-EO) and electrocoagulation (HL-EC) technologies to the Philippines.
